Canadian considerations
The core model is the same in Canada, but a few things differ: consent rules for follow-up messages (CASL), carrier forwarding steps, and honest availability of any given service.
United States
US readers can skip the CASL specifics, but the availability and forwarding points still apply.
Canada
Under CASL, a service needs your express consent to send promotional messages; transactional messages are treated differently. Forwarding codes vary by Canadian carrier. Confirm a service genuinely operates in Canada rather than borrowing a US number or US pricing.
Verify Canadian availability
Confirm a provider actually supports Canada — not just a US product with a maple-leaf on the marketing page.
Limitations
- Quebec French-language service may not yet be available from a given provider; do not assume it is.
